Brick commercial building in downtown Kittanning: strapped shingles, dark metal roof, boom lift work at the chimney.
This job was a brick commercial building in downtown Kittanning, three stories with a steep gable roof. We started by fastening wood strapping in rows over the existing shingles. That gives the metal a flat, solid surface to fasten to. Scaffolding went up along the side walls, and a boom lift let us reach the eaves.
The dark metal panels went on from the eave up to the ridge, with the old shingles and strapping still showing on the sections not yet covered. On a roof this tall, the crew stayed tied off on rope lines the whole time. We capped the ridge with matching trim, and from up there you can see most of downtown and the hills around town.
At the eaves we pried off the old painted wood trim, which was weathered and coming apart, and finished the edges with white vented soffit and fascia. The boom lift also took us up to the top of the brick chimney. From the ground, the dark roof now sits on a clean white edge above the brick.
